the real me

Today I have a dirty little secret to share....

It has to do with blogging.

And it has to do with your blogs....

Have you ever noticed that you never see any real photos of my home? Everything I show is usually a closeup.

Know why?

It's because my house isn't a picture perfect home! It's cluttered, it's dusty, there's dog hair everywhere!

And I'm embarrassed to show it on-line!

Here it is.... This is our home! Mess and all.

Yet, when I visit your blogs, all the nicknack's are sparkling (no dust), your beds are perfectly made with not a wrinkle in the sheets and all the pillows placed perfectly, and not a mess anywhere!

I have to say, it makes me feel somewhat inferior, less than perfect! Embarrassed! Even on my best day, my house doesn't look so sparkling clean! Never is my house decluttered.

Okay, so these pictures are about as bad as it gets, well, excepting for the stack of disorderly magazines and catalogs everywhere....

and the dust bunnies under the chairs ....

and the dishes in the sink....

and the clutter on the counters....

My bed does get tossed together most days, but never will it look picture perfect.

The dog hair is swept up every other day but in between sweeps, you wonder when was the last time.

And for the most part my home is ready for company at a minute's notice. So why can't I show the "real me" on my blog?

It's really not that bad but sometimes I wonder what your homes look like on any given normal day, and not just during a photo shoot.... Is the sun really always shining through your windows? Are your windows always really clean? Are your kitchens really so pefect looking? If I came to visit would I see toothpaste gooped in the bathroom sink? A dirty coffee pot? Unfinished laundry? Piled newspapers?

I love my life. I try to live a balanced, healthy life. I no longer have such a strong need to be perfect.... (yes, Tracy, another inherited trait I'm sorry to say....), to have the perfect life.... I try hard to keep my home looking presentable; clean; decluttered-but-lived in. Maybe I'll just start showing more of the real me and not some version of what I think I should be for others.

Oh Nancy, thank you so much for posting that, it sure makes me feel like I am not alone! I often wonder and squirm away from the blogs that are so very perfect and make me feel so very inferior! I love a beautiful home too, but come on, not a newspaper, a coffee cup (unless placed intentionally) a dog hair or dust bunnie?
Thanks for posting the real deal!

Nancy...I just happened upon your site from another site...I think it was Cherry Hill Cottage...geez...I like so many and have all of them in my favs...I can't keep up...anyhoo...first I love the honesty you posted here...I think everyone is like this...unless of course they are completely and totally organized at all times, never waste time, and always follow their schedule...I of course AM NOT like that...go to my blog...you won't see very many if any posts of my home....not that I don't love it...not that it's not beautiful...it's just "lived in"...and is not always BH&G picture ready!! So it was great to see your honesty shine through...

Secondly...I must tell you that I searched out your sight b/c you mentioned you were from Alaska...I don't know if you have always lived there...but I am in TOTAL LOVE with your state (mind you I haven't spent a winter there, yet)...my family and I spent 2 weeks there last summer...my son and DIL spent 9 weeks at a lodge on Pedro Bay where my son was the Chef for the lodge last summer...after their time there the rest of the fam...(my husband, myself, my daughter & SIL) flew up to Anchorage met up with the DIL...while the guys flew to meet my son at Pedro Bay...they fished and boated and flew around the beauty of Alaska...while the girls and I rode the Princess Line up to Mt. Denali...we actually saw it...it was a clear day...I'll post pictures later on...we went kayaking, horseback riding in the tundra, went to a cute little Saloon Dinner Show...and did some hiking...after that we went back to Anchorage and road the rail to Seward so we could take a boat out and do a little whale watching and such...I was in awe of the glaciers...my word...words just cannot describe their beauty...the many shades of blue, white, purple and pinks that are woven into those century old mountains of ice...I truly fell deeply...madly in love w/Alaska...and I think the people we met along the way (locals) were some of the most generous and nicest people I've ever met....I want to go back so badly...I can't stand it...my husband is taking me to Italy in October...which I am really looking forward to...but I asked him..."When are you taking me back to Alaska??"

I remember hearing Juneau??? but I'm not sure where it is in relation to where we were...I know it's gorgeous though...

Sorry for the blab fest...but I could talk all day about Alaska...

Blessings...

ok now i know you saw my ramshackeled abode the other day in pictures and that was just the craft area. ask tracy, she got to see our chaos first hand today. right now i can blame it on the fact that we have just moved....um like a month and a half ago.... but its not like it would really be that much different around here even if we had been here for years. i'm not a n organized person ... ask jerusalem she lived with me off and on during college.
but i have coem to terms with the fact that this is just me and those that love me and know me can accept this. i will give you the warning at the door that its a wreck adn if you have to use the bathroom i may run in ahead and make sure there is no dirty underwear hanging about.
no perfect kitchens here, toothpaste runs rampant, i prefer to think of it as a well seasoned coffee pot... you know like an iron skillet, and laundry comes to my house to multiply.
i dont live in a museum. or a home and garden magazine either.

You have just become my best friend.

My home is worse than yours - believe me.

I love a woman who is not afraid to be herself.

And I doubly love it when she's not concerned with how my house looks.

I have so many friends that I wouldn't dare invite to my house for fear they would abandon the friendship. Sad but true.

You are not one of those people - I'm sending such big hugs to you!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take care and happy day.

Now, you know that those photos are "staged" most of the time right?

Thanks for stopping by my blog today...YES I now remember your sweet town as the capitol...and I do remember talk of each election of renaming the capitol to Anchorage...hmmmm...that's not nice!! lol...

I have to see pictures of your Sadie...that is what I wanted to name our Maggie...but my sweet hubbin wanted to name this dog...b/c it was suppose to be his hunting dog...but she is really just a pet for now...she does have a great nose though and we do work her on drills from time to time...she's a natural...hubbin just has b/c so busy since we got her that he hasn't been able to train her as much as we should....if we wanted her to be a great field trial dog it would take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours of training a day...well, that ain't happenin...I love the name Sadie...in fact if our Maggie ever lets a male dog get near her during her cycle...we will breed her to a british black lab...MINT...*see my post for his pics and the story of the frigid female named Maggie***...so if they have pups...my desire was to keep a black female and name her "Sadie the Shady Lady"...my family laughs at me!! Oh well..gotta have fun w/something...again, thanks for stopping by...I'm going to add you to my favs if that is alright...and I look forward to seeing pictures of your Sadie...is she British, too???

Blessings...

Tracy, my house is always clean because I clean it before you come! It's amazing how much tidying up you can do from the time a car drives into the driveway and you walk into the door! Or if it's a family event, we do spend hours and hours making everything "just perfect." We're really slobs.... :)

Are you sure that is your house...because it looks an awful lot like mine!

Hi Nancy! I love this post. It is totally how my house looks most of the time (except when company is coming), forget about surprise visits, then I am totally mortified! It's hard to keep up with everthing all of time unless of course that is all you do! Thanks for visiting my blog and for the nice comments too!
